Millennium Development Goals, Education for All, Post 2015 Agenda Emphasis on the connection between the teaching and learning environment and the community is central to quality education. A cross sector planning - systems perspective on equitable quality education from planning to costing, strategy development, monitoring and evaluation to integrate CCADRR Child-friendly education – in quality schools, inclusive of all girls and boys – strengthens children’s resilience to cope with the effects of climate change. Case studies Community-based Adaptation to climate change Quality Education with relevant content Albania: A country in transition, meeting the Millennium Development Goals, towards accession to the European Union led to the development and implementation of the Child-Led Environmental Initiative (CLEEN). Brazil: A leader in youth engagement with a focus on the marginalized, through a participatory policy collaboration led by Brazil’s Ministries of Education and Environment Maldives: A small island developing state’s national strategies to address climate change and disaster risk through environmental education, aiming to empower young people under the age of 14 – 40 per cent of the country’s population – and to enhance their resilience. Philippines: Enhanced media attention, strong political will and increased foreign aid in the aftermaths of frequent natural disasters revealed links between disaster management and education initiatives. The Government began to address these challenges at the national level through the Climate Change Act of 2009. Zimbabwe: Enhancing Food Security through the Empowerment of Schools project, which integrates district-level teacher training, nutrition gardens, WASH facilities and community involvement.
