Our school • Public school with standard curriculum • 440 students at primary and secondary school • 48 at kindergarten • Grades 1 – 9 • Students from 6 – 15 years old • English from grade 3 as a compulsory subject (3 hours per week) • From school year 2016/17 - from grade 1 as an optional subject (1 hour per week)
I. Situation before study visit in Greece • 2015/16 – „soft CLIL“ project with native speakers • September 2016 – CLIL Prime project stars • 7 test CLIL lessons taught and video taped, questionaire for students • November 2016 - study visit in Greece
II. Current situation (CLIL implementation) • Team stabilisation (currently team of 6 teachers) • Students more involved (special projects Xmas habbits, CLIL Prime project countries) • Parents more involved • CLIL showers regularly taught in the second half of the school year 2016/17
CLIL Showers • Several minutes (10 -35) lasting second language activities taught in non-language subjects (games with words, word building, songs, puzzles, role playing, movement activities…) • Organizing of routine activities – commands, instructions (the showers should help children lose their awareness of the existence of different languages and prepare them for language learning) • Technical terms are not necessary to use • Present new topics, practise taught schoolwork and summarize new knowledge
