Hi XXXX I have recently supported people with a learning disability by joining the R-Word campaign. It's really easy to do and will make a big difference to people's lives. It only took me a few minutes and all you need is your computer and a camera. People with a learning disability find words like "retard" or "spaz" really offensive and therefore Mencap and Advocacy For All are raising awareness that these words are unacceptable. You might think "I don't use words like that" which is great but please read on as you can still support. We would like as many people as possible to join in and support the campaign by doing the following. Attached to this message are 4 Power. Point slides please would you. Open the document and follow the instructions on the first slide Alternatively you can print off one or all of the slides (in colour if you can) hold the message in front of you, take a photo and email it back to Mark Grainger at mark. grainger@mencap. org. uk Your photo will help us reach our target of 1000 people supporting the campaign. With your support we can make a huge difference so please support the campaign and send Mark your photo and if possible send an email to your friends, colleagues and family. There is an example of an email you can use on the last slide of the. Powerpoint attachment. If we support the campaign we can really make a difference so please join the campaign and send Mark your photo Best Wishes XXXX PS The R-word campaign was started in the USA by the Special Olympics and Best Buddies. It would also be great if you could visit the website and sign the R-Word pledge which only takes around a minute. The website is here www. r-word. org If you consent we will also add your photo to a montage of Bromley R-word campaign supporters.
