Luke 9: 28 -36 Jesus took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.

32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it’s good for us to be here. Let’s put up three shelters —one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. ” (He didn’t know what he was saying. )

34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him. ” 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone.

Mark 9: 14 -22 14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him. 16 “What are you arguing with them about? ” he asked. 17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who’s possessed by a spirit that’s robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they couldn’t. ”

19 “You unbelieving generation, ” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me. ” 20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. 21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this? ” “From childhood, ” he answered. 22 “It’s often thrown him into fire or water to kill him.

9: 19 “You unbelieving generation, ” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? ” “Bring the boy to me. ”

“If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us. ” 23 “‘If you can’? ” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes. ” 24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit, ” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again. ” 26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead. ” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. 28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out? ” 29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting. ”

“Mark focuses on the need for prayer because it clearly demonstrates that divine power is not under human control; it must always be asked for. Manifestations of the power of God, such as are needed when dealing with the forces of evil, come only in response to the attitude of trust and reliance upon God that’s expressed in humble prayer. ” Syd Page

Please join together in prayer: “Lord, you traveled through towns and villages curing every disease and illness. At your command, the sick were healed. We ask that you come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing & love.

Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through your grace. Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another.

Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. Bring your comfort and strength to the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.

Guide the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.

Give your wisdom and discernment to leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the wellbeing of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for, or prevent, future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth.

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace. Jesus Christ, may your Kingdom come on Earth as it is in Heaven. Amen. ”
