Task: Redesign your classroom and rethink how it should, or could, function as technology advances and our notion of study and sharing changes accordingly. Take a poll to aid in your design process. What do you and others want for your classroom of the future?

We have computers to look things up We can work from other classes and peers hung on the wall There’s sufficient lighting All materials needed for the class are accessible The room is too long so students can’t see/hear from the back Tables take up too much space The columns get in the way of people’s vision Wires from the computer are everywhere and get snagged Not all computers have the right programs for assignments Little space to move; possessions in the aisles

Poll Results Questions Responses Think of a classroom you like. How are the seats arranged and why do you like it? • What are the pros and cons of room B 6? • • • What do you think should change regarding the seating and in general? • What class is best for B 6? What would the environment be like? • • • Seats all face towards the teacher and it is easy to hear what the teacher says [T] Rows, evenly spaced out, easy to access/walk to Any seating arrangement is fine that allows for vision towards the board I can see the teacher most of the time. If you’re all the way in the back then you can’t really see or hear [T] The room is too long/deep It’s a big room and all the desk align towards the [teacher’s] desk. There is a lot of space It should be alternated so that the back of the room can easily get to the front [T] Partner pairs! Maybe once a semester (if needed!) I feel that the seating arrangement should alternate due to how the classroom has been set up I would change it to a computer class because there are computers everywhere. Teach by using the screen as an example [T] Group based Have the same classes, being architecture & art.

Phase Two: Brainstorming Some Class room that inspired our ideas: In these classrooms, they are in groups of four and have a lot of space between the desks. There also sinks to wash equipment.

Phase Three: Develop Solutions The purpose of classroom will remain the same-- a computer-using class and an Art elective for high schoolers. The only thing different would be that the main class is an art class taught digitally and manually. The tables are in groups of four or two in two sections. Half the class draws manually and the other half is practicing digital art. They will switch weekly. The walls will be painted in an array of colors and cool designs. Art will be hung up on the ceiling, lights, and wall. Our design will support a max of 24 students. All computers will have the same Program on them. They will also have a program that lets them view the assignment from the teachers computer.
