CLASSIFYING POLYNOMIALS Monomial Binomial Trinomial and Polynomials WARM
CLASSIFYING POLYNOMIALS Monomial, Binomial, Trinomial, and Polynomials
WARM – UP!!! Good Morning! As you walk in, please pick up your calculator and pick up a Unit 5 guided notes booklet from the podium!
POLYNOMIALS Polynomial: algebraic expressions and equations that have multiple terms, coefficients, and exponents. Example x 3 + x + 1
POLYNOMIALS CAN BE: Monomials: one term Binomials: two terms Trinomials: three term Polynomials: more than 4 terms
DEGREES When we are looking at degrees, we are looking at the exponents of our terms. Degree of monomial: the sum of the exponents of the variables Ex. 1 x 4 y 3 z Degree of a polynomial: the degree of the term with the greatest degree.
DEGREE TABLE
CLASSIFY THE FOLLOWING: Be sure and state the type of polynomial and degree. 1. x 2+3 x+1 1. x 5 y 7 2. t+18
CLASSIFYING CONTINUED…. 4. 7 5. 16 t 3 – t 2 +4 6. 16 + 7 x 2
CLASSIFYING POLYNOMIALS ACTIVITY You will be working in pairs for this activity! 1. Each person should have a puzzle activity. You need to cut the pieces apart and shuffle them. 2. Once you have shuffled the pieces, switch with your partner and begin classifying the polynomials so the words match the right polynomials. 3. After you have put the puzzle together, get a piece of construction paper together and glue down both puzzles. 4. Write your name and your partner’s name on the paper. Then turn it in to the wire basket!
