Way side station • Station having an arrangement only for crossing up & down train & for overtaking a slow moving train by fast train. Types of station • Halt station • Flat station • Crossing station

Halt station • Stopping place • No building and staff

Flat station • Similar to halt station but in this station building & staff are provided • Also have facility telegraph,

Crossing station Facility are provided for crossing up & down train provided with one loop line Type • Crossing type way side station on double line track • Crossing type way side station on triple line track

Junction station • It have some special arrangement to fulfill following requirement • To facilitate the interchange of traffic between main & branch line • To clean & repair railway, locomotive etc • To change the direction of engine

Terminal station • The station at which railway line terminate or ends is known as terminal station

Station yard • A system of track laid within prescribed limits on a railway station , over which movements of train are not authorized by the time tble is known as station yard

Passenger bogie yard • Provide facility for safe movement of passenger and bogies

Good yard • It provide facility for receiving, loading unloading &delivery of goods

Locomotive yard • It provide facilities for watering, repairing, oiling , cleaning of locomotive.

Marshalling yard • The yard where trains & other loads are received, sorted out stations wise & new trains are formed and despatched onward are known as marshalling yard

Function of Marshalling yard • Reception of empty & loaded wagons • Sorting of wagons • Departure of wagons in the form of train

Water column • They are provided for feeding the water to stem locomotive. • It will situated at the end of the platform so that engine of running trains can take water when heating • They may installed on ash pits so that the engine may remove their ash simultaneously while taking water • At important stations two or more water column are provided
