CLASS SYLLABUS~Mrs. Lustenberger Language Arts 8 th Grade Edition, 2020 -2021 Grading during COVID: ● Course Description: Course Expectations: ● AZ College and Career Ready Standards drive instruction and provide a purpose for learning. The purpose of this course is to provide eighth graders, using texts of high complexity, language arts study in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language for college and career preparation and readiness. The content of this course includes, but is not limited to the following: ● active reading of varied texts for what they say explicitly, as well as the logical inferences drawn ● analysis of literature and informational texts from varied literary periods to examine: ● writing for varied purposes ● writing to sources using text- based evidence and reasoning effective listening, speaking, and viewing strategies with emphasis on the use of evidence to support or refute a claim in multimedia presentations, class discussions, and extended text discussions Students will be expected to complete and submit all assignments by the due date and participate in all class activities. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and follow all class and school rules. Students will be responsible for keeping planners/agendas updated and for sharing all information and grades with parents or guardians. ● Classroom Behavior Expectations: ● ● The minimum grade on any given assignment is a 50%. Teachers will enter a minimum of one grade per week into Tyler. Assessments include, but are not limited to, quizzes, group collaboration, tests, projects, essays or presentations. All grading will take into consideration students’ socialemotional needs, external challenges, and the ability of the student.
