Write some predictions about who you think the characters in the book may be, where it could be set, and what you think might happen. Remember, you need to give evidence to back up your predictions - why do you think what you think? I predict that the main character(s) is the book will be………. . I think this because……… Furthermore, I believe that the setting for the story will be……. This is because………. In my opinion, the book will be about……. I have come to this conclusion because…. .

Blurb BLURB I heard the wind above me in the sails. I remember thinking, this is silly, you haven’t got your safety harness on, you haven’t got your lifejacket on. You shouldn’t be doing this. Then the boat veered violently and I was thrown sideways. I had no time to grab the guard-rail. I was in the cold of the sea before I could even open my mouth to scream. Washed up on an island in the Pacific, Michael struggles to survive on his own. He can’t find any food, he can’t find any water. In the end, he curls up to die. When he wakes, there is a plate beside him of fish, of fruit, and a bowl of fresh water. He is not alone… Now read the blurb on the back of the book. Were your predictions correct? 1. ‘Michael is not alone…. ’ What do you think this could mean? Who or what could be on the island? 2. Does the blurb make you want to read the book? Do you think you are going to enjoy it? Why?
