CLASS # 6 GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 1. The best place to begin

CLASS # 6 GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 1. The best place to begin a discussion about tithe and offering is Malachi 3: 6 -12 (AMP) 6 For I am the Lord, I do not change; that is why you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed. 7 Even from the days of your fathers you have turned aside from My ordinances and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, How shall we return? 8 Will a man rob or defraud God? Yet you rob and defraud Me. But you say, In what way do we rob or defraud You? [You have withheld your] tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer [insects and plagues] for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine drop its fruit before the time in the field, says the Lord of hosts. 12 And all nations shall call you happy and blessed, for you shall be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts. 1 A. What are we doing to GOD if we do not give tithe and offering? _________ 1 B. How much are we to give? _______ 1 C. Who will bless us if we give tithe and offering? ______ How will we be blessed ____________________________________________ 1 D. Who will curse us if we do not give tithe and offering? ______ How will we be cursed? _______________________________ 2. Tithe -Christianity - a tenth part of agricultural or other produce, personal income, or profits, contributed either voluntarily or as a tax for the support of the church or clergy or for charitable purposes. TITHE IS MANDATORY, IT IS A REQUIREMENT OF GOD, IT IS 10% OF YOUR INCREASE Malachi 3: 10 (AMP) 10 Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, Page 1 of 6

CLASS #6 3. CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING Offering - a contribution given

CLASS #6 3. CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING Offering - a contribution given to or through the church for a particular purpose, as at a religious service. Anything given as a gift. OFFERING IS NOT MANDATORY, IT IS A GIFT TO GOD, IT IS ANYTHING ABOVE THE REQUIRED 10%. Exodus 25: 2 (AMP) 2 Speak to the Israelites, that they take for Me an offering. From every man who gives it willingly and ungrudgingly with his heart you shall take My offering. DO NOT FOOL YOURSELF AS SOME DO IN THINKING THAT YOU CAN GIVE AN OFFERING TO THE LORD WITHOUT PAYING YOUR TITHE. ITS LIKE OWING $2000 FOR YOUR MORTGAGE AND GIVING YOUR BANK $100 WITH A NOTE, “ I DON’T BELIEVE IN PAYING MY MORTGAGE BUT I DO WANT TO GIVE YOU THIS GIFT OF $100 – IT IS AN INSULT TO GOD. 4. The needs of GOD’s house – are to be supplied through tithe and offering. Not chicken dinners, gospel fests, selling candy bars or other fund raising events – it is to be supplied by HIS people with a willing and obedient heart - The Giving of Tithe and Offering. 4 A. We are not saying that one should never have a fund raising event. However, it should be the exception and not the rule in taking care of GOD’s house and HIS people. Consider the time we spend In planning, preparing, and executing a fund raising event. Wouldn’t that time be better spent planning, preparing, and executing a soul winning event. Instead of selling a candy bar or a chicken dinner – what about selling someone on JESUS – The One who already purchased our lives. And gives us eternal life if we believe in HIM. 5. Let’s see what else the bible says The first account of tithe, is Abraham giving Melchizedek a tithe. Genesis 14: 17 -20 (AMP) 17 After his [Abram's] return from the defeat and slaying of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh, that is, the King's Valley. 18 Melchizedek king of Salem [later called Jerusalem] brought out bread and wine [for their nourishment]; he was the priest of God Most High, he blessed him and said, Blessed (favored with blessings, made blissful, joyful) be Abram by God Most High, Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth, 20 And blessed, praised, and glorified be God Most High, Who has given your foes into your hand! And [Abram] gave him a tenth of all [he had taken]. _________________ _________________ _______ 19 And Page 2 of 6 _________________

CLASS #6 CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 6. Second incident of tithe is

CLASS #6 CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 6. Second incident of tithe is with Jacob: Genesis 28: 20 -22(AMP) 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me food to eat and clothing to wear, 21 So that I may come again to my father's house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God; 22 And this stone which I have set up as a pillar (monument) shall be God's house [a sacred place to me], and of all [the increase of possessions] that You give me I will give the tenth to You. 7. Based on Deuteronomy 12: 4 -6 We should pay tithe at the place the LORD has chosen. This is the church body HE has placed us in. Deuteronomy 12: 5 -6 (AMP) 5 But you shall seek the place which the Lord your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put His Name and make His dwelling place, and there shall you come; 6 And there you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering of your hands, and your vows and your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock. We are to give the LORD a tenth of all our increase Leviticus 27: 30 (NKJV) 30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s. It is holy to the LORD. Remember, it is what Jacob vowed. Genesis 28: 22(AMP) 22 And this stone which I have set up as a pillar (monument) shall be God's house [a sacred place to me], and of all [the increase of possessions] that You give me I will give the tenth to You. All our increase implies any way the LORD sees fit to bless us and add to our house. This could be work income, income given us, gifts, ect… in·come 1. the monetary payment received for goods or services, or from other sources, as rents or investments. 2. something that comes in as an addition or increase, especially by chance. (Income) $100. 00 (A Tenth) X 10% (Tithes) = Page 3 of 6 $10. 00

CLASS #6 CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 8. Based on Leviticus 27: 30

CLASS #6 CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 8. Based on Leviticus 27: 30 -32 the tenth of our money is holy unto the LORD and it belongs to HIM. We have the provision to redeem it – if necessary. However, if we redeem it – then we must add a fifth to the tithe when we pay GOD what we owe. Leviticus 27: 30 -32 (NKJV) 30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s. It is holy to the LORD. 31 If a man wants at all to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add one-fifth to it. 32 And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the LORD. EXPLANATION OF TITHES COMPUTATIONS Leviticus 27: 31 (NKJV) 31 If a man wants at all to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add one-fifth to it. Example: If your increase is $100. 00 your Tithes (a tenth=10%) would be $10. 00 If you redeem your Tithes you are to add a fifth (20%) of your Tithes {not your Total Income} to it. Let's do the MATH: (Income) $100. 00 (A Tenth) X (Tithes) $10. 00 10% (Tithes) = (A Fifth) X 20% $10. 00 (Interest) = $ 2. 00 Your total tithes would be $12. 00 Another way to calculate your Tithes if you redeem them is to multiply your Income by 12% and that is what you owe including interest. If your Income is $100. 00 - multiply it by 12%. $100. 00 X 12% = $12. 00 9. Some people say that tithe and offering is an old testament command. Well what about in the New Testament: Matthew 23: 23 & Luke 11: 42 Jesus said in Matthew 23: 23 (NKJV) 23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. According to The LORD, we are to pay the tithe, “These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. ” Page 4 of 6

CLASS #6 CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 10. Hebrews 5: 11 -12 (AMP)

CLASS #6 CONTINUED GIVING : TITHE AND OFFERING 10. Hebrews 5: 11 -12 (AMP) 11 Concerning this we have much to say which is hard to explain, since you have become dull in your [spiritual] hearing and sluggish [even ] slothful in achieving spiritual insight]. 12 For even though by this time you ought to be teaching others, you actually need someone to teach you over again the very first principles of God's Word. You have come to need milk, not solid food. Tithe and offering can be considered one of those things which is the milk of the law – it should be done without leaving the weightier things undone. 11. 1 Corinthians 16: 2 (AMP) 2 On the first [day] of each week, let each one of you [personally] put aside something and save it up as he has prospered [in proportion to what he is given], so that no collections will need to be taken after I come. 11. a 11. b 11. c 11. d First day of the week ( when the church was gathered together) Give personally – Each person has a responsibility to give - no one can do it for you. Give proportionally ( each person gives according to his increase). Give preventively. So when there is a need the money will already be there. 12. We are to have an equal responsibility in giving : 2 Corin 8: 13 -14 (AMP), 13 For it is not [intended] that other people be eased and relieved [of their responsibility] and you be burdened and suffer [unfairly], 14 But to have equality [share and share alike], your surplus over necessity at the present time going to meet their want and to equalize the difference created by it, so that [at some other time] their surplus in turn may be given to supply your want. Thus there may be equality, 13. When we give – we are giving to GOD, HE is the righteous judge of the quantity, quality, and intent of our giving: Acts 5: 1 -11 (NIV) Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. 3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God. ” 5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. 7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is the price you and Ananias got for the land? ” “Yes, ” she said, “that is the price. ” 9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also. ” 10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events. Page 5 of 6

"In all of my years of service to my Lord, I have discovered a

"In all of my years of service to my Lord, I have discovered a truth that has never failed and has never been compromised. That truth is that it is beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God. Even if I give the whole of my worth to Him, He will find a way to give back to me much more than I gave. “ The great 19 th century preacher Charles Spurgeon Proverbs 18: 16 (NIV) Proverbs 22: 9 (NIV) Proverbs 25: 14 (NIV) Proverbs 28: 22 (NIV) 16 9 A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. 14 Like clouds and without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given. 22 The stingy are eager to get rich and are unaware that poverty awaits them. Acts 20: 35 (NKJV) 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. ’” Luke 6: 38 (NKJV) 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. ” Chorus: You can't beat God giving, no matter how you try. And just as sure as you are living and the Lord is in heaven on high. The more you give, the more He gives to you, but keep on giving because it's really true that you can't beat God giving, no matter how you try. Page 6 of 6
