Assembling Your Team • Squadron and Cadet Commanders involved selecting Team Commander. • 6 team members required to compete; Alternates? ? • Team Commander should look for excellent, well-rounded cadets. • Make sure your team understands all events; play to everybody's strengths. • Set up a semi-regular practice schedule. • Utilize your highest performing cadets, but don't limit involvement to your team. • Use Competition as Squadron Motivation/rallying point. RIFLE POSITIONS
Attention Order Arms Ø Similar attention in standard drill Ø Same as position of attention with rifle Ø Butt of the rifle lined up with the toe of right shoe Ø “Taco” hold on the barrel with right hand Ø Order Arms is the act of returning to attention position from other positions
Port Arms 2 Count Movement Ø Starting from attention position I. On ARMS lift rifle barrel with right hand diagonally across you and grasp hand guard with left hand simultaneously II. Grasp rifle at small end of stock with right hand. (Maintain 45 degree angle from head. )
Right / Left Shoulder Arms 4 Count Movement Ø Start from attention I. On ARMS move to port II. Move right hand to heel III. Remove left hand & twist rifle and place on right shoulder. Transition from port arms to right shoulder arms IV. Sharply move left hand to side (like attention)
Parade Rest & At Ease ØOn REST / EASE move muzzle forward from attention ØMove right hand to grasp the barrel
Present Arms 3 Count Movement Ø Start from attention I. On ARMS execute first count of port II. Second count of port III. Twist rifle to trigger facing away from yourself and centered. (lower slowly until barrel tip sits at eye height)

Preparation for the Uniform • Short sleeve shirt: your shirt should be nicely ironed and or pressed. The best way for it to keep shape is to starch it. • Blues pants: pants must be lint free and ironed. The Front of pant leg should rest on front of shoe, with slight break in the crease and 7 1⁄8” longer on back, the best way to keep it in the best look is to use pant hangers they have clamps that hold them, so they aren't folded. • Flight cap/cap device: The flight cap should fit snugly on the head not too tight nor not too loose. The flight caps device should be centered on left side, 1 1⁄2” from edge. Male and female flight caps are slightly different in style but prescribe the same rule for placing the device. Uniform Accessories • Chevrons: they should rest 1 -inchfrom the collar edge, parallel to that edge and centered. • Blue nametag : should rest on but not over the right pocket and needs to be centered. • Ribbons: these ribbons should be in order from curry to present rank. Check 39 -3 for ribbon order. • Ribbons rest centered on, but not over, the left pocket. • Belt & buckle: the tip of buckle extends to wearer’s left (males) or right (females). No belt fabric should show. The edge of the shirt’s button placket, the edge of the buckle, and edge of the trouser fly must align. • Color guard cord: the cord should be placed on the left shoulder and secured with a bobby pin at the bottom of the cord ONE CIVIL AIR PATROL, EXCELLING IN SERVICE TO OUR NATION AND OUR MEMBERS! 29
Grooming and Looking Smart • Shoes need to be clean and shiny. • Make sure jewelry, watches, etc. are taken off. • Shirt Stays help keep your shirt nice instead of looking really wrinkled. • Male: Haircuts should be freshly done, hair should not be touching the ears, the top should not reach 1¼ inch in bulk. Uniform Inspections • Team Commander Reports in for the whole team. • Covers should be worn during inspection (even if inside). • The whole team should come to parade rest. • When the judges come to inspect each person, they should come to attention and report into the judges. • Before inspection, double and triple check each other's uniform. • When being inspected, listen for feedback from the judges. • Be relaxed during the inspection and be confident in your well-prepared uniform.
