American Disabilities Act (ADA) Overview n Guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public and private sector services and employment n Bans discrimination on the basis of disability n A comprehensive anti-discrimination law for persons with disabilities covers, work, leisure, transportation, communications, etc.
COS History in ADA Implementation n City of Stockton began a self-evaluation in November 1993. n In 2002: hired a consultant to complete Transition Plan n July 2004: Transition Plan completed n October 2004: Transition Plan approved by Council.
Recommendation: City of Stockton Mayor’s Task Force on Persons with Disabilities n The Mayor with consent from Council will select a task force from a group of community members and those currently serving on the Mayor’s Task Force on Persons with Disabilities.
