History • Citizens Bank Park was originally known as Veterans Stadium. • It was used as the field for both the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles for a couple decades. • It was then rebuilt 30 years later but kept the same name. In 1971 the first game was played in the new and improved $25 million Veterans Stadium. • The original Veterans Stadium was considered one of the worst fields ever because of the turf that they used. • In 2004 the new Citizens Bank Park was opened across the way from the former Veterans Stadium.
Features • Ewing. Cole and HOK Sport+Venue+Event (HOK SVE) were the architects and design team. • The actual building square footage is 1. 15 million. • The amount of land that the park has is 21 acres • The seating capacity is 43, 647. • There are 70 luxury suites. • There also memorials to veterans, statues, and multiple pieces of artwork throughout the park. • The park was built with the view in most parts of the stadium that you can see the Philly skyline. • There is also a replica of the liberty bell which rings and lights up every time a Phillies’ player hits a homerun.
