Facts Ø Ø Anyone who is 16 years old or older may be prosecuted as an adult for any Felony charge. Juvenile Court may retain jurisdiction until 21 years of age. Any violent class A Misdemeanor will stay on a juveniles record for 10 years at ACIC and NCIC. Anyone 16 years or older who commits a Felony will have their record stored at ACIC and NCIC for 10 years. Juvenile Justice 21
Extended Juvenile Jurisdiction EJJ stands for Extended Juvenile Jurisdiction. EJJ begins in Juvenile Court and may continue to Circuit Court. A juvenile sentence may be imposed and if rehabilitation efforts fail he or she may be sent to the department of corrections. To be sentenced under EJJ the juvenile must commit a violent offence in which he or she could have been charged as an adult. Juvenile Justice 22
EJJ Some examples of these crimes for 14 and 15 year olds are; Rape, Murder, Battery 1 st Degree, Aggravated Robbery, Terroristic Act, Kidnapping, Possession Of A Handgun On School Property, First and/or Second Degree Escape, Any Felony Committed While Armed With A Firearm, Soliciting A Minor To Join A Criminal Street Gang. Sex Offenders Adjudicated for a Sexual Offence Referred to the GARLAND COUNTY SAM TEAM Sex Offender Treatment (Inpatient or Out Patient) Discharge From Treatment and Court Review UAMS Community Notification Risk Assessment (This is used to determine if Sex Offender Registration is Recommended) Sex Offender Registration Hearing Follow all Probation Rules Juvenile Justice 24
Registered Juvenile Sex Offenders Level 1 -4 (4 being the highest level) May request a review every year until they turn 21 years of age Will only stay on the sex offender registry for 10 years from their adjudication Juvenile Justice Information is stored during that time in ACIC, NCID, and all Law Enforcement. 25
