Ideas: Significance for Muslims today in the UK, Importance for Muslims worldwide, Importance for non-Muslims seeking to understand the faith. The Qur’an The book of Islamic revelation. The term means ‘recitation’. The Qur’an is believed to be the word of Allah transmitted through the prophet Muhammad 1400 years ago. The Tawrat The Torah, also sacred to Jews. This book is mentioned eighteen times in the Qur’an as true revelation that preceded the Gospels and the Qur’an. Muslims believe the Torah, unlike the Qur’an has not been preserved in its original and true form. The Zabur The Psalms, also sacred for Christians and Jews. In the Qur’an the Psalms of David are said to be revelation sent to David, who is considered a prophet. God is considered the author of the Psalms. The Injil, Gospels are scared to Christians. The message of Allah as delivered by the Prophet Isa (Jesus) can be found here. Some Muslims believe the Gospel or the New Testament may have been corrupted over time. The Sahifah This holy scripture is sacred to Shi’a Muslims only. It is attributed to the fourth Imam and has been given many titles, such as `Sister of the Qur'an', `Gospel of the Folk of the House', and `Psalms of the Household of Muhammad'.
