Audience Grimm: Disney Popular belief is that it is aimed at children's fairy tale story. It is very apparent that Disney’s adaptation of Cinderella is aimed towards a young audience as well as a family setting. It was hard to find reliable sources, but one website claimed that they were aimed towards a more mature audience.
Reception Grimm: There is very little information on the reception of Grimm's interpretation of Cinderella as it was released in the 19 th century. 83% rating on google. Disney: Very popular and very well received. 6 th highest grossing film in 1950. Director Michael Curtiz to Disney– “Masterpiece of all pictures you have done. ” Received 3 academy award nominations in 1951. 97% rating on rotten tomatoes.
Similarities Storyline Characters Concept
Differences Grimm is a much darker interpretation – the sisters had their eyes plucked out. There were no mice in Grimm’s version. Grimm’s tale had a much stronger moral and message for their audience. They describe Cinderella’s death. No fairy god mother in Grimm’s – it was a hazel tree and the magic had no deadline. The sisters cut their toes off and shed their feet in order to fit into the slipper.
Presentation Grimm Disney Morbid, black and white and unsettling. Round, soft, mostly pastel, cartoon and clearly aimed for a younger audience.
Conclusion In conclusion, we have learned that Cinderella has changed a lot. She went from being a tale of warning to an inspiration to young people. It’s interesting to see how a tale of caution can be told and then changed into a tale of hope, joy and redemption.
