An introduction to writing fiction. Learning Objective: To identify some of the key techniques and characteristics in writing fiction. What is fiction? What are literary devices?
Fiction is writing that draws on your imagination. It might have some emotional truth or inspired by reality, but the writing takes the reader somewhere else. It uses language that is descriptive and poetic. Examples: poetry, plays, novels and short stories.

Outcomes…is a wedding a happy ever after? Can you see it? Identify some of the key techniques of writing fiction? Can you write it? This will enable you to write and shape your own creative text, demonstrating your narrative and description skills in the examination. Think of a Fairytale? Look at other stories where the five stage (or perhaps more) story structure have been used.
