CIA & Drugs • 1947 - The CIA is established. According to the CIA website, the CIA’s reason for establishment was to provide accurate and timely foreign intelligence related to national security and to conduct counterintelligence and other special activities.

CIA & Drugs • 1947 - The CIA is established. The CIA sends money to heroinsmuggling Corsican mobsters in Marseille to help them fight the communists in the battles still going on after WWII.

CIA & Drugs • 1950 - Project Bluebird Launched The CIA considers drugs to improve its interrogation methods. Research for this project begins. In 1953, it is actually tested. Patients are given drugs such as LSD.

CIA & Drugs • 1960 - CIA vs. Vietnam The CIA establishes relations with Laotian, Burmese and Thai drug dealers who mainly deal heroine. It is yet another alliance formed with drug dealers in an attempt to stop communism.

CIA & Drugs • 1967 -89 – The Life and Times of Manuel Noriega • 1967 - Noriega, already working in a US intellegency organization, is employed by the CIA. • 1968 - Noriega estableshes Panama as the US center of intelligence in Latin America. • 1971 – The US finds out that Noriega is deeply involved in drug trafficking. • 1976 – CIA Director Bush pays Noriega $110, 000 for his services. Jimmy Carter is elected and suspends all payments to Noriega.

CIA & Drugs • 1967 -89 – The Life and Times of Manuel Noriega • 1981 – Reagan is elected and Noriega resumes getting paid. In 1986 alone he recieves $200, 000. In addition, the active leader of Panama dies in a plane crash and Noriega comes to power. He was very corrupt; he trafficked drugs, commited espionage, and even murder. • 1988 – US Urges Noriega to step down. Noriega refuses. • 1989 – Panama was invaded and Noriega was arrested and sentanced to 40 years in jail. During most of his CIA career, he was a double agent who supported communism and he dealt drugs.

CIA & Drugs • 1970 – CIA OK with Opium A Christian Science Monitor correspondent reported that Opium shipments out of Laos are given special CIA clearance to leave the country. Also at this time, 30, 000 U. S. troops in Vietnam are addicted to heroin.
