Ci. P Assessments What? Why? When? HOW? ?
What & Why? • The successful completion of each stage of training will be dependent on achieving the expected level in all Ci. Ps and procedural skills • Decisions on progression fundamentally rely on the professional judgement of the ES. • Trainees collate evidence through the year • Courses/clinical supervisor feedback & assessments/reflections etc • Towards the end of the training year, trainees will assess their own progression for each Ci. P and record this in the Training e. Portfolio, signposting to the evidence that supports their rating
When? • Any time through the year that the trainee feels Ci. P requirements met for that year • Definitely before ARCP • Now, after transfer? ? • You could, as a baseline…. not compulsory
How? - Part 1: non-clinical Ci. P • Self-assessment: • Look at details of Ci. P • Consider statement of expectations for training grade • STRATOG elearning resource • Embedded in e. Portfolio • Honest reflection of own progression & evidence • Can I evidence this? • Is my evidence appropriate for my stage of training? • ES: • Agree or disagree & why?
How? - Part 2: Clinical Ci. P • Self-assessment • Look at details of Ci. P & statement of expectations • Do I meet expected level for my year of training (as per next slide)? • What evidence do I have to support this? • Is it appropriate to my level of training? • ES • Agree or disagree & why Level Descriptor 1 Entrusted to observe 2 Entrusted to act under direct supervision: (within sight of the supervisor) 3 Entrusted to act under indirect supervision: (supervisor immediately available on site if needed to provide direct supervision) 4 Entrusted to act independently with support (supervisor not required to be immediately available on site, but there is provision for advice or to attend if required) 5 Entrusted to act independently
How? - Part 3: ES focus How do we assess the Ci. P? Is this sufficient evidence to sign off the Ci. P? Am I happy there is evidence to support the acquisition of key skills? Is this the best evidence? Would some of this evidence be more appropriate in other Ci. Ps as evidence? Is there other evidence that has been missed? Is this the right level for this trainee? Are they meeting the standards of expectations?
Your turn – small groups • Non-clinical Ci. P • Look at the Ci. P information & the statement of expectations • A - Brainstorm examples of evidence that you might utilise to evidence this Ci. P (as a group) • B - Create a PDP based around this Ci. P using the SMART tools • Clinical Ci. P • Look at the Ci. P information & the expected “LEVEL” • A - Brainstorm examples of evidence that you might utilise to evidence this Ci. P (as a group) • B - Create a PDP based around this Ci. P using the SMART tools • ES • Look at trainee’s self -assessment and statement of expectations • Do you agree? • Why/why not? • Is this the best evidence that they could use? • B – PDP example
