No Santa? • In Denmark, there is no Santa! • Instead, they believe in an elf named “Nisse. ” • During Christmas, he is believed to play tricks on people! – On Christmas Eve, people lay out a bowl of rice pudding for Nisse to eat so he will not play tricks on you. Even though he tricks people, Nisse is a very kind elf, and brings presents to those who are kind also.
Christmas Calendars • Starting on December 1 st, Danish people bring out their Christmas calendars. • These calendars have colorful doors that open revealing small gifts. • Most of the time, they have small chocolates, toys, and even gum. • These calendars helps make the wait for Christmas more bearable.
