Jesus • Jesus was born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth in the Middle Eastern reaches of Roman empire • Jesus was born Jewish and was said to be Messiah- Son of God • Preaches throughout Middle East gaining many followers along way • Followers are known as 12 Apostles- with Peter being most influential
Teachings of Jesus Justice and Morality Showing Mercy to all Peace and Non-Violence Turn the other Cheek Love thy enemy
Roman Response • Emperor sees Jesus as threat to his power • Why would he think this? • Revolutionary Thinking • God more important than Emperor • Nonviolence goes against Roman values
Roman Response • Jesus will be executed by Romans with a crucifixion • Death of Jesus will only help spread his message • Apostles will continue to spread message throughout Rome

Christainity Established • After years of internal growth Christainity will eventually be accepted when the Edict of Milan is passed under Emperor Constantine • Edict of Milan grants religious freedom throughout Empire • Emperor Theodosius will make Christainity official religion of Empire 80 years later.
