What factors influence reading achievement? Summer: • When school is in session, students from low-socioeconomic families typically learn at the same rate as their financially better-off peers (Alexander, Entwisle, and Olson, 2007) • Access, choice and volume during the summer dramatically affects reading achievement especially for economically disadvantaged students. • Effects of reading 4 -5 books over the summer was potentially large enough to prevent decline of summer loss (Kim, 2004)
