Child, Youth, Adult v Child: below Anyone 6 th grade and v Youth: Anyone not a child and under 18 v Adult: Anyone over the age of 18
Two Person Rule Having at least two adults in any classroom or setting. Exception: Pre-K to 8 th grade – 1 adult plus another adult or youth is acceptable.
General Rules Ø Two Person Rule Ø If a door has a window, the window should be uncovered. Ø If a door has no window, the door should be open.
Supervision of Classroom Activities • Two Person Rule – If Two Person Rule is not possible, view of classroom must not be obstructed • An adult will be doing periodic check • Encouraged to wear name tags
Open Door Policy Parents, volunteers and staff will be permitted to visit rooms at any time. Pick Up Procedure Birth to 1 st Grade Parent or authorized adult
Responding to Allegations of Child Abuse ü Proper authorities need to be notified (eg. Local law enforcement) ü NY State Abuse Hotline – 1 -800 -342 -3720 ü If abuse is observed üGet another adult to diffuse matter and report incident immediately to Church School Superintendent and pastor.
Responding to Allegations of Child Abuse ü Parents will be notified immediately ü If parent is the alleged abuser, follow advice of the authorities. ü After reporting abuse to authorities and pastor or designated leader, report to: üModerator üAssistant Moderator üChair of Board of Deacon üMember of Church and Ministry Committee üGVA Response Team
Responding to Allegations of Child Abuse ü A written report will be prepared by witness/witnesses and authorities involved. ü Contact with media will be by senior pastor or the person appointed by senior pastor
Incident/Accident Reporting In the event of an incident or accident, an incident/accident form will be filled out and submitted to the Church School Superintendent.
