Purpose of the Childhood Obesity JSNA It: • Gathers evidence about childhood obesity, its causes, extent and consequences enabling a shared understanding of the size of the local problem • Identifies what we are doing now to support our residents • Stimulates debate about what more we could or should do to support our residents to move more and eat healthier • Provides a baseline for future measurement of the effectiveness of what we do Page 2

Costs of childhood obesity Overweight adolescents have a 70% chance of becoming overweight or obese adults • In 2015, the treatment costs of obesity in London are estimated to be between £ 37 million - £ 195 million • An obese child in London is likely to cost around £ 31 per year in direct costs which could rise to £ 611 per year if they continue to be obese in adulthood.
