What are child soldiers? “Child soldiers are any children under the age of 18 who are recruited by a state or non-state armed group and used as fighters, cooks, suicide bombers, human shields, messengers, and spies. ” -Dosomething. org
How many people does this affect in Africa? According to the Human Rights Watch, there an estimated 12, 000 child soldiers in Africa. Our team focused on children in Uganda.
Who are the most common victims of Child Soldiers in Uganda, Africa? The most common victims are poor children, of any sex, anywhere from ages 5 to 18 They are the easiest to force to commit crimes
Reasons why this type of slavery exists According to Child Soldiers Campaign, child soldiers exists in Uganda today because the adults don’t have enough soldiers, and resort to using children. Some children are beaten to submission, while others join to escape poverty.
Living conditions and overall treatment The children live under harsh conditions They are deprived of food, education, and healthcare. Almost always treated brutally

What can people do to stop this? One organization that is working to stop the use of child soldiers is the Cultures of Resistance Since most child soldiers are poor Cultures of Resistance raises funds and sends it to Africa so the children don’t have to fight anymore.

Conclusion In conclusion child soldiers are children under the age of 18. They are forced into the military, or militia. The reason Uganda has child soldiers is because children are the easiest to convince to commit crimes. Another reason is that there are not enough adult soldiers to fight. These children hardly get any kind of education and are forced to do things against their will.
