Cheating in school……that cool? TEACHERS If students cheat, I will see many high grades and believe that the class understood the material and won’t spend more time to review the material. If the class is on a curve, it may raise the curve for everyone else. It also lowers the value of the grades, especially in a vigorous class. Cheating also gives students the impression that the teacher doesn’t care. It lowers morale. Cheating also saps motivations of students who don’t cheat. -By Fred Scarf, 17, Birmingham HS (Van Nuys) STUDENTS A lot of students today don’t even view cheating as wrong, and most of those who cheat have been doing it for so long that it doesn’t even faze them. -By Katie, TX Nearly all teens in this national, random-sample survey say cheating's wrong. Most who admit to cheating say it was a rare thing. And fewer than three in 10 say "most" or "a lot" of kids in their school cheat; 44 percent say it's just "some. " -By Dalia Sussman

CHEATING in a relationship Is cheating in a relationship worst then cheating in a game, or on a test? How would you describe cheating on a relationship? Do boys and girls define cheating differently? Cheating, as defined by Webster’s Dictionary, means “to violate rules and regulations of a relationship” or “to be sexually unfaithful. ” Being sexually unfaithful is a pretty straightforward indicator of cheating, but “rules and regulations” can be a huge gray area in most relationships. This likely varies from couple to couple, or even from the perspectives of men and women. @#$% You for cheating on me. !@#$ you for reducing it to the word cheating. As if this were a card game, and you sneaked a look at my hand. Who came up with the term cheating, anyway? A cheater, I imagine. Someone who thought liar was too harsh. Someone who thought devastator was too emotional. The same person who thought, oops, he’d gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar. *&#% you. This isn’t about slipping yourself an extra twenty dollars of Monopoly money. These are our lives. You went and broke our lives. You are so much worse than a cheater. You killed something. And you killed it when its back was turned. ” ― David Levithan, The Lover's Dictionary

CHEATING on games Is cheating on a video game the same as cheating on

CHEATING on games Is cheating on a video game the same as cheating on an exam? Is it different if you’re playing a game with a group? everybody cheats. Some may justify it, others proudly proclaim it, and others will deny their cheating vigorously, but it's a common activity. Players use walkthroughs, cheat codes, social engineering techniques (basically being crafty and tricking others), hacks and other unauthorized software. Cheats are popular, big business and not going away anytime soon. Individual gamers set boundaries for what they will or won't do, and there are several general reasons why people cheat. But either way, can the activity be good for you? When I first started examining the practice of cheating, I took it as a given that most people viewed it as a negative activity. Cheating implies that you aren't a good enough player to finish a game on your own, or that you want an unfair--and unearned--advantage over other players. Yet in researching why people cheat and how they cheat, I've found that, much of the time, cheating actually implies a player is actively engaged in a game and wants to do well, even when the game fails them. - Mia Consalvo

A Gamers' Views on CHEATING ONE GAMERS' VIEW There are four major reasons why players cheat in a game: they're stuck, they want to play God, they are bored with the game, or they want to be a jerk. The overwhelming reason most players cheat is because they get stuck. Either the game is poorly designed, too hard, or the players are so inexperienced that they can't advance. A boss monster can't be beaten, or a puzzle solved, or the right direction found. In such situations, players face a choice: They either cheat or stop playing altogether. -Mia Consalvo Any gamer, or parent of a gamer, will know the feeling. There’s a boss that just can’t be defeated, a puzzle that can’t be solved, or a level that appears to have no way out. The best games are neither so hard that they drive us mad, nor so easy that they fail to offer a challenge. But inevitably there are exceptions. What do you do then? Ask the internet, of course: many other gamers will have figured out what to do and posted the solution online. The answer is just a few clicks away. Purists say this is cheating. They argue that solving a puzzle yourself, as gamers had to in the old days, might have taken longer, but it was more satisfying. When you know that detailed “walkthroughs” are available online, free of charge, for almost any game, the temptation is to ask for virtual help at the first sign of trouble, which robs players of a true sense of achievement. I say this is cobblers. Downloading a walkthrough (my favourite site is gamefaqs. com) or simply Googling for a solution has many merits. It stops me throwing my controller at the screen. It lets me swoop down like a god and solve my children’s gaming problems. And it makes us more likely to finish games, rather than giving up when they start to get too tricky, so we get better value for money. - Tom Standage
