CNA 3. 1 Chatter § 2 -Basic Operation Primary Graphical Chatter Displays Topology – Shows EDGES (aka “Links”) and NODES (Routers, CNA Agents) • Edges represent DIRECTIONAL links between nodes – Coloring of EDGES (green, pink, red, etc. ) depends on the selected • TEST (RTP, Ping, Traceroute, TCPconnect), • VARIABLE (e. g. , RTP-Delay, Ping-Loss, Traceroute-Hop. RTT), and • CRITERION (Relative, Absolute, Min, Median, Max), as well as the – Absolute threshold setting for each cell and edge – Min/Median/Max Upper and Lower Bounds for the display Zone Matrix – Each cell in the matrix represents all test results (in one direction) between two zones – Coloring of cells same as for Topology edges For both displays, you can drill down on cells or edges to see individual test results © 2006 Avaya Inc. More on Display Coloring CNA 3. 1 Chatter § 2 -Basic Operation The 5 different “Criteria” – Relative, Absolute, Minimum, Median and Maximum – are just 5 different schemes for coloring the Zone Matrix and Topology displays Changing the criterion simply changes the way a given set of test results are used to color a cell or edge – The criterion has no effect on the underlying data or the configured Alarm settings – Think of it as taking a picture of a Sunset. Moving to another position changes your perspective and the picture, but it doesn’t change the Sunset! – Similarly, changing the criterion simply changes the summary view of the last 150 test results for a cell or edge © 2006 Avaya Inc. And a Last Word on Criteria CNA 3. 1 Chatter § 2 -Basic Operation Criteria are applied to the last 150 test results for a single variable (delay, loss, etc. ) collected for a given cell or edge – Relative: Shows if the most recent results are trending better or worse than the “norm. ” The new results can become the norm fairly quickly if they are consistently high or low – Absolute: Shows if the most recent test results are above or below a user-defined threshold for alarming – Minimum: Shows how the lowest value test result in the most recent 150 compares to a pair of thresholds set by the user – Median: Shows how the middle value test result in the most recent 150 compares to a pair of thresholds set by the user – Maximum: Shows how the highest value test result in the most recent 150 compares to a pair of thresholds set by the user © 2006 Avaya Inc. CNA 3. 1 Chatter § 2 -Basic Operation How CNA Agents Are Selected For Testing 32 emea madrid waterloo X madridcna waterloo © 2006 Avaya Inc. All rights reserved. avaya madrid First, chatter selects a Matrix Cell in (one of) the Zone Matrices for which it wants to run a test – e. g. , FROM Waterloo TO Madrid It then randomly selects one CNA Agent to represent the Waterloo subzone and another to represent the Madrid subzone – If the FROM and TO Zones are leaf zones, one of their directly assigned Agents will be selected. Otherwise, an Agent assigned to one of the leaf zones descended from the FROM or TO Zones will be selected randomly Chatter then sends appropriate test requests to both Agents – A Slave Request to the TO Agent, a Master Request to the FROM Agent – A single Test will then be run between the FROM and TO Agents, and the test result will be added to the Results Queues (e. g. , Delay, Jitter, Loss) for the selected FROM/TO Matrix Cell madridsg Avaya – Proprietary & Confidential. CNA 3. 1 Chatter Relation Between the Zone Hierarchy and Zone § 2 -Basic Matrix Operation Assume a CNA Lab Zone Hierarchy with a Root Zone called “CNALab” and 4 Subzones of CNALab named TH 1, TH 2, TH 9 and C 14 Each of these Subzones contain CNA Agents that will perform tests with CNA Agents in each of the other Subzones – In addition, the CNA Agents within a Zone can perform tests with each other. We call this Intra-Zone testing. There are 12 combinations of Subzone pairs that result from the directional pairings of 4 Subzones, i. e. , – TH 1 -TH 2, TH 1 -TH 9, TH 1 -C 14, TH 2 -TH 1, TH 2 -TH 9, . . . There are 4 additional pairings that represent the intra-zone testing that can take place between Agents within a Zone, i. e. , – TH 1 -TH 1, TH 2 -TH 2, TH 9 -TH 9, C 14 -C 14 All of these pairings can be represented on a 4 x 4 matrix with 16 Cells, as shown on the next slide © 2006 Avaya Inc. CNA 3. 1 Chatter § 2 -Basic Operation Cells in the Zone Matrix Each cell in the Zone Matrix contains the most recent 150 test results for tests between a given pair of Zones – Cells represent directional traffic, e. g. , the cell marked with an “X” represents traffic from Zone TH 2 to Zone C 14, while Cell “Y” represents traffic from C 14 to TH 2 Left-to-right diagonal cells (the grey ones) represent intra-zone traffic – Intra-zone testing is enabled by default, but it can be disabled – There must be more than one CNA Agent in a zone for intra-zone testing to occur X Y Cell coloring is based on criteria that will be discussed in the next course module © 2006 Avaya Inc.
