Who’s Charles Dickens?

�Much loved for his great contribution to classic English literature. �He was a Victorian author based in the 1800 s. �His writings are considered epic stories with vivid characters and exhaustive depiction of contemporary life.

Timeline �- 1812 was born in Portsmouth, England. �- His father was a naval clerk who dreamed to be rich. �- His mother wanted to become a teacher and a school director. �- 1819 Dickens and his family moved to Kent, England.

�- 1822 the Dickens family moved to a poor neighborhood called Camden Town in London. �- 1824 Charles’ father was sent to preson for debt. �- Charles was forced to leave school and to start working at a boot- blacking factory. �- 1827 he drop out of school again to support his family. �- 1833 he began to send sketches to various magazines and newspapers. �- 1836 his first book sketches by Buzz is published.

�- Dickens had 10 children with Catherine Hogarth. �- 1858 he got divorced. �- His first novel was Oliver Twist. �The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby �The Old Curiosity Shop �Barnaby Rudge �A Christmas Carol �- 1849 -50 David Copperfield �-1859 A Tale of Two Cities �- 1860 -61 Great Espectations is released. �- 1870 he had a stroke and died in Kent, England
