Charleroi Area School District There has been a 90% increase in COVID-19 cases in US children in the last four weeks. *American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospital Association Florida's COVID-19 cases in children have increased 137% in the past month. It is true that children tend to get less severely ill than adults, particularly when compared to older adults with underlying medical conditions. But some children do become very sick and require hospitalization. Among children admitted to the hospital, 1 in 3 end up being admitted to the intensive care unit — a similar ratio as adults.

Schools may allow students to remove face coverings when students are: ● Eating or drinking when spaced at least 6 feet apart; or ● When wearing a face covering creates an unsafe condition in which to operate equipment or execute a task; or ● At least 6 feet apart during “face-covering breaks” to last no longer than 10 minutes.

Must an individual provide evidence that they qualify for an exception to the Mask Order? ● Yes ● Again, both Section 504 and IDEA permit school officials to ask for medical documentation to demonstrate a student's need for an exemption from any face covering requirement.

Health and Safety Plan On Thursday, August 13, the Pennsylvania Departments of Health (DOH) and Education (PDE) released recommendations on procedures to follow when responding to COVID-19 cases in Pre. K to 12 school settings. This health-focused guidance will serve as an additional resource to help you plan and ensure the health and safety of our school communities throughout the 2020 -21 academic year. When a case of COVID-19 is identified in a school setting, public health staff from DOH or the county or municipal health department will work with school administrators to provide additional guidance and advice related to cleaning and disinfecting, contact tracing and quarantine recommendations, and closing certain areas of the school or an entire school building if necessary.

Tables and chairs cleaned and sanitized between lunch periods and/or use of groups Students encouraged to bring their own lunch. Grab-and-Go meals whenever possible to speed delivery and avoid lines. Shared condiments replaced with condiment packets. Grab-and-Go breakfast meals to eliminate common area congregation. No assemblies or field trips. Protocols for recess, Physical Education, Band, Choir, and other non-traditional classes are under development.
