Dissection of a URLs start with http: // to initiate the hypertext transfer protocol used by web sites. This part of the URL tells the browser to look in the Resources folder on the eric. gov web server. http: //www. eric. ed. gov/resources/index. html The domain name tells the browser to look for the ERIC server on the web site of the U. S. Dept. of Education. This part of the URL tells the document to be found in the Resource folder.

If one starts a search with too specific a search they may not find what they are looking for or may miss a valuable web site.
