Vocabulary Definition A pair of numbers enclosed in parentheses and separated by a comma, such as (-2, 1), is called an ordered pair of numbers. The first number is called the x-coordinate of the ordered pair; the second number is called the y-coordinate. For the ordered pair (-2, 1), the x-coordinate is -2, and the y-coordinate is 1.
