What is a microscope? MICROSCOPE- is a tool that makes things look larger. Micro- means “very small” Scope- means “to look at”
A lens is a piece of curved glass or other clear material. Light that passes through a lens is bent. The bending of the light rays causes the object to look either larger or smaller.
TYPES OF LIGHT MICROSCOPES: 1. Simple microscope- has only one lens 2. Compound microscope - has two or more lenses. Using two lenses makes things look larger rather than using one lens.
History of a microscope: The first compound microscope was invented by Hans and Zacharias Janseen in 1590 in Denmark. Since then, many scientists and people used a microscope. Microscopes that we use in the classroom are called compound light microscopes.
