Releases A release is an grant of permission that is provided in written form with signatures of all people involved. Property releases and talent releases are commonly used in the broadcasting industry.
Property Releases A property release gives the video team permission to shoot on private property. Public Property is owned by local, state, or national government organizations, and generally includes parks, streets, and public sidewalks. Private Property is property that is owned by a single individual or private organization. To get a property release simply go to the owner of the property or manager and get them to write a letter stating that the video crew has permission to shoot in the area specified, then get the owner or manager to sign the letter, print their name and title and provide a contact number and address.
Talent Release A talent release is a document that gives permission to video producers to photograph the talent and/or to use audio of the talents voice. A passive talent release document is a general notice that is given to all parents indicating that, from time to time , organizations outside of the school system may request permission to video record inside the school.
Copyright Laws protect the creators of the original material from having their materials and creative work used without proper permission and compensation. Fair Use is a section of the Copyright Law that provides guidelines for the limited use of copyrighted materials without obtaining permission from the copyright holder(s) Transformative use means a image or other material was used for an entirely different purpose than it was originally created and intended to be used for.
Logos Trademark Law protects a company’s brand identification(logo), which represents their products and services.
Public Domain is the designation applied to material that is no longer copyrighted due to the passage of time(relative to the date of creation) or relinquished rights by the copyright holder.
Public Forum, Limited Public Forum, Non-Public Forum is an environment or location, typically public property or media, where an individual can stand publicly speak their mind pure free speech. Limited Public Forum is public property or media that is made available for a specific use. Non-Public Forum is either public or private property or media that is not typically used or made available for public expressions.
