Section 2: Punic Wars • First Punic War (264 BC-241 BC) 1. Purpose of War • Rome wants to take Sicily from Carthage – Rome copies Carthaginian ships (but better!) – Naval Battles 2. Results • Rome takes Sicily
Section 2: Punic Wars • Second Punic War (218 BC-202 BC) 1. Purpose • Carthage wants Spain – Carthaginian general Hannibal attacks Rome from land • Surprised Rome from attacking from Alps with elephants! – Roman general Scipio takes Spain and attacks Carthage • Hannibal goes back to home and loses 2. Results • Rome takes Spain • Carthage has no navy
