L 3: Turkish Empires Rise in Anatolia • Interaction between Abbasids & Turks: – Abbasids bought Turkish children to become slaves, military soldiers, & bodyguards. • The Persians were in power (945 A. D. ) of the Abbasids at this time. – Eventually, Turkish mamelukes, grew powerful enough to take over the Abbasid Empire. • Mamelukes were military slaves.
