The Wanderers GALILEO AND THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Scientific Method • Galileo’s study brought a systematic method to observing, experimenting, and analyzing. • Galileo not only was a great discoverer in astronomy but also derived the modern scientific method
Mars • Telescope images (optics) improved so much that people believed that there were ice caps and mountains like earth • In 1960 s, the US and Russia launched unmanned rockets to land on Mars • When images were sent back the differences in the two planets were strikingly revealed.
Comparisons Earth • Diverse Life forms • Plentiful liquid water • Climate able to sustain both frozen and liquid water • Oxygen atmosphere Mars • Devoid of Life • Ice on Mountain caps • May have had liquid water initially due to having warmer climate • No oxygen in atmosphere
