OCTOBER 13, 2015 STOLEN BY THE NAZIS: RECOVERING “THE WOMAN IN GOLD AND OTHER PAINTINGS” Chapman’s Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education hosted a guest lecturer. Portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the film Woman in Gold, E. Randol Schoenberg is the attorney who waged an eight-year battle on behalf of Maria Altmann in her quest to regain six paintings by Gustav Klimt that had once belonged to her family but were taken by the Nazis. Schoenberg himself came to guest lecture, and PAT executive board members were invited to a dinner with him prior to the event to discuss his work.

NOVEMBER 10, 2015 AN INTERFAITH SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE FOR KRISTALLNACHT The service held in remembrance for Kristallnacht featured reflections by Ambassador Dr. Bernd Fischer, Chancellor Fellow and former Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Los Angeles. NOV. 4 -DEC 7, 2015 SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK ORANGE COUNTY DONATION MONTH The Alpha Mu Gamma chapter of Phi Alpha Theta partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County during the fall semester to help provide food during the upcoming holiday season. Boxes were placed in the History department where students from any discipline could drop off donations.

Third and fourth year students emphasized the inestimable value of research gleaned abroad in composing their senior theses.

APRIL 9, 2016 PHI ALPHA THETA CALIFORNIA STATE CONFERENCE This year, the PAT Southern California Regional Conference was held at California Lutheran University. Chapman University earned two awards that day! Maci Reed (pictured left) won in the Undergraduate American History category for her thesis: “A Singing Army is a Fighting Army”: American Soldiers’ Songs and the Training Camp Experience in World War I. In the Graduate American History competition, Lauren Cruz captured the top award for her thesis, "Mad Dash for the Firing Line: A Study in the Power of World War I Xenophobia. "

APRIL 9, 2016 PREVIEW DAY AT CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY While the rest of the executive board presented their senior theses at the Phi Alpha Theta Regional conference, junior Nahoko Hashimoto (Historian) represented PAT and the Chapman History Department at Preview Day. At Chapman University’s Preview Day, newly admitted students attended academic panels headed by faculty and select students in preparation for their major , or if undecided, explored the various disciplines offered.

APRIL 20, 2016 PHI ALPHA THETA (ALPHA MU GAMMA CHAPTER) INDUCTION At the Alpha Mu Gamma chapter induction, we celebrated our new inductees. After performing the ritual, we relaxed with some great food and conversation. Faculty and other students also attended the ceremony and mixer. We nominated and elected our new executive board positions. While the old executive board lamented that the year had passed so quickly, they were equally happy for the incoming team to start their new positions for the 20162017 academic year! MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: KRISTINE AVENA Kristine applied for the 2015 Scholarly Research & Creative Activity Grant program and was one of the very few recipients! She was rewarded with a research trip to the National Archives in Maryland, accumulating invaluable information for her senior thesis.
