Kotter’s 8 Steps Cont’d Steps one and two 1: Create a sense of urgency 2: Build a guiding coalition • Urgency with a change like this is important to get individuals on board and getting it moving. • Having a support group that is in favor of the change is very important to help with a smooth implementation. • Promoting the need for a change can help to get the movement in the right direction • Finding managers who agree with the need for change is the first part of building a coalition. Kotter’s 8 Steps Cont’d Steps three and four 3: Form a strategic vision and initiatives • Strategies are important plans of different options to implement the change that is wanted. • Initiatives gives the presentation a better understanding of why the change needs to happen. 4: Enlist a volunteer army • Obtaining a massive number if individuals who are in agreement of the need of change is important for the movement to be successful. Kotter’s 8 Steps Cont’d Steps five and six 5: Enable action by removing barriers • Understanding what can be considered a barrier for this change is important. • Whatever the barriers may be removing them is necessary for success. 6: Generate short-term wins • Tracking progress and acknowledging the successful tasks and progress made helps to reassure the team of the need of this change.
