WHY MUST WE LIVE CAPTION? IT’S THE LAW § According to the U. S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR), responding to an ad-hoc accommodation request by an individual student with a disability is not enough to satisfy compliance requirements for distance education courses. § Distance Education courses must be designed in such a way that the level of communication and course taking experience is the same for students with or without disabilities.

CHANGES TO CCC LIVE CAPTION § All qualified CCC’s have minimum baseline funding. Live captioning billing over baseline funding will be paid in full on a first-come-first-serve basis while funding is available. § New application and funding steps: CCC’s will submit applications to CCC Live Caption for funding. Upon approval of funding, CCC Foundation will notify designated captioning vendor of CCC approval. Captioning company will work out details with college to provide live captioning services. The captioning company will bill the CCC Foundation directly for services. § Turnaround time for reimbursement of live captioning expenses to qualified CCC’s has been shortened to 7 -10 business days from submission of the reimbursement application (if college has already paid for captioning services).
