Lesson 1: Beginnings � Early � Beliefs: Judaism According to the Hebrew Bible: � Isaac and Jacob were sons of Abraham � Jacob’s twelve sons became the leaders of the twelve tribes of Israel � Jacob’s family migrated from Canaan to Egypt because of famine (lack of food) � Egyptians enslaved the Israelites. � An Israelite prophet, Moses, led the people out of Egypt and across the desert back towards Canaan in what is known as the Exodus
