Presidential Disability According to Section 3 & 4 of the 25 th Amendment, the Vice President is to become President if: 1. The President must write to Congress that he is unable to resume his duties and the Vice President may assume them 2. The President becomes so disabled that he is unable to relay to Congress that he can no longer continue in his role, then the Vice President and the majority of Congress will decide for him if he can continue

The Vice Presidency: Importance of the Office The Vice President has only two duties assigned by the Constitution : 1. To preside over the Senate ( President of the Senate) 2. To be there in case the President is struck with disability “ President- in - waiting” President chooses the Vice President to “ balance the ticket” ( increase the future president’s chances of winning) Vice Presidency facts: vacant 18 times ( 9 by succession , twice by resignation, and 7 times by death )
