RECERTIFICATION BY CONTINUING EDUCATION Candidates must submit professional portfolio demonstrating completion of a minimum of 40 IPUs All IPUs are required to be from an accredited organization Candidates can accumulate IPUs any time after their previous recertification submission date throughout their five year recertification period

EARNING IPUs Can I use this activity? ü Subject matter related to infection prevention and control and falls within at least one of the eight “domains” ü Presented through or sponsored by an accredited organization ü Able to verify attendance or participation by providing required documentation YES!

EARNING IPUs Will my CEUs/CNEs be accepted? ü Yes. Your CEUs/CNEs translate to IPUs, as these were obtained through an accredited organization. ü However, not all CEUs/CNEs will be weighted the same as IPUs. ü You are responsible for determining which domain your CEU/CNE activity fits in. CNEs/CEUs IPUs

RECERTIFICATION BY IPUs TIMELINE Professional portfolio available January 1 st of recertifying year Record activities and upload verification documents Submit portfolio by October 31 st Random audit of portfolios If successful, new five year recertification period begins

VERIFICATION All activities must provide some form of documentation for verification. Some examples include: ü Certificate of attendance ü Verification letter ü Appointment letter on official letterhead A complete list of required verification documentation within each IPUs category can be found on the CBIC website on the IPUs criteria chart.

COMPLETING THE PORTFOLIO Once 40 IPUs and at least 6 domains are completed, the option to submit payment appears After payment is submitted, the portfolio is submitted

LAPSED DEADLINE/AUDITING ü If a candidate fails to submit a portfolio by October 31 st, he or she must take the online recertification examination. This exam must be purchased by November 30 th and completed by December 31 st. ü If a candidate’s portfolio is selected for a random audit and the units are not accepted during audit review, the candidate has the opportunity to resubmit their portfolio. ü If after portfolio resubmission the portfolio is still not accepted, the candidate must take the proctored recertification examination, which must be completed by December 31 st.
