Facts (Gather the facts of the situation) § Events: What has happened, and what is the current situation? § People: How many people are affected, and how many can help? § Property: What is damaged and how severely? § Yourself: Are you in immediate danger? CERT Sizeup (simplified) 3. Plan (Direction before velocity) § Establish priorities. Are lives at risk, and can you help? (Life safety=#1 priority) § Define objectives. Base your objectives on the answers to the previous steps and aligned with the priorities you established. § Make an action plan. The plan must meet your objectives while maintaining priorities and safety. Simple plans verbal, more complex plans written or diagramed. Maps are especially useful. CERT Basic Training 2016 -03 -21
