Ceramics Beginning of the year information

Ceramics • Welcome! Ceramics is a 3 D class where you will make a pottery and learn about different types of ceramic arts. • This class is designed to be a fun experience in creating and designing with clay. Note that you will get mud on you. And those who do not like touching materials that get them dirty may have a difficult time. • All work may be taken home once it is photographed.

Class set up • This class is designed to be a working studio class, there will be working critics and there will be class critics as well. • Students are asked to take notes during demo days, please draw images to go with your note. • No Food or Drinks (besides water) During class. You are creating with your hands, while this is not truly toxic its not good to eat at all. Also clay dissolves in liquid, all that hard work will disappear.

Tips for success • Come to class on time or even early. • Come to open studio days, Monday Friday • Come dressed for clay, don’t wear your favorite shoes or have something you don’t want mud on. • Long hair, pull it back. Long nails, cut them. • Do not wait for the last two days to start a project. It take about 8 hours to fully dry and it would miss firing.

Class expectations • During demo days I expect you to take notes and listen. I have to physically show you how to do things not just describe them to you so listening with both ears free of headphones. • I expect your cell phone is away, Glaze and clay can ruin your phone. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. • All assignments have a hard due date because the kiln runs on a schedule. Late work will need a late work sheet. • All work made needs to have sketches before creating them and once its completed with a glaze fire you need a photo in the round. (All around the photo).

About me! • My Name is Lillian Sutton, You may call me Ms. Sutton. • I am the youngest of 3 girls • I have two degrees in art and art education. I am working on my masters in Sociology. • I have two dogs D. Rose and Gidget. • I really enjoy traveling and going to art museums. • I drink a lot of coffee. Lets take a tour!!
