CER • Claim • A 1 -2 sentence answer to the question you are investigating. • When possible it should describe the relationship between the independent (manipulated) and dependent (responding) variables. • Evidence • Sufficient: Enough to support the claim • Appropriate: Use data that supports the claim, leave out information that may not. • Qualitative (characteristics), quantitative (numbers), or both if available. • Reasoning • Explains how or why the data supports your claim. • Provides justification for why the evidence is important. • Incorporates scientific principles important to the claim or evidence.
