CENTRAL STATION ACTION PLAN

The Central Station action plan was created in response to multiple instances of anti-social behavior and related activity within the immediate vicinity of Glasgow Central Station.

A steering group made up of partners from

Businesses in the area were lettered and we carried out surveys and environmental visual audits in the area.

The following issues were identified:

• • • Rough Sleeping • Drug Dealing Drug Misuse • Alcohol Street Begging • Litter Graffiti • Drug Paraphernalia High levels of ASB

This enabled the group to draft up a plan of action to:

Clean up the area via increased; o Graffiti Removal o Needle Uplift o Cleansing o Street Cleaning

Improve the physical environment through; o Improved Street Lighting o Seasonal/feature lighting o Avenues Project / District Strategy o City Centre Mural Trail o Pop Up Stalls and Activities o City Centre Lane Activation Fund

Reduce street begging and rough sleeping in the area through; o Distribution of Eat, Sleep, Clothes, Meet booklets to vulnerable groups o Rough Sleepers and Vulnerable People (RSVP) team to help rough sleepers access accommodation o City Centre Response Team (CCRT) who can provide help to vulnerable people o Introduce Street Change Glasgow, an alternative giving scheme enabling the public to make informed choices about making donations to people begging on the street.

Reduce ASB and drug related criminal activity by; o Encouraging public and businesses to report activity in the area o Publicising which areas are covered by CCTV o Increased Police presence o Additional patrols by Community Enforcement Officers

With these actions in place we can hopefully look forward to:

• Reduction in levels of complaints • A cleaner, more attractive area • Fewer people street begging and rough sleeping • Lower levels of ASB/Criminal Activity • A more vibrant experience for residents and visitors alike
