History • The fire district – officially created by resolution of the Board of Supervisors of Suffolk County on March 21, 1905. This date is prior to the actual formation of the Central Islip Fire Company on May 5, 1906. • The fire department – Since 1933, five commissioners were elected to ensure fire prevention, suppression, and overall assistance to the community. The Board also prepares an annual budget and is responsible for the raising of funds. • The fire companies –The companies were comprised of Engine Co. 1, Engine Co. 2, Hose Co. 1, Hook and Ladder Co. 1, and Patrol Co. 1. District Service Area • Central Islip Fire District has 3 Stations • Central Islip Fire Department is made up of 6 companies Headquarters Engine and Hose Company #1 Fire Emergency Services Company #1 Engine and Hose Company #3 Station 2 – Wheeler Road Engine and Hose Company #2 Hook and Ladder Company #1 Station 3 – Old Nichols Road, Islandia Engine and Hose Company #4 Each Fire Company responds to the entire District. District Responsibilities • Fire District is made up of 5 publicly elected Board Members • These five Fire Commissioners are elected to ensure fire prevention, suppression, and overall assistance to the Community. • BOFC acts as liaison between the 100% volunteer Fire Department and the community • BOFC is responsible for fiscal needs of the District and the Department • BOFC is responsible for regulatory agency (PESH, OSHA, NFPA, DOH) and record keeping compliance • BOFC is responsible to ensure facilities and equipment are in working condition CENTRAL ISLIP FIRE DISTRICT

Our Challenge: An Overview • The Central Islip Fire Department , formed in 1906, has served the community well for over 100 years. But much of the infrastructure in various facilities has exceeded its useful life. Upgrades to their existing facilities is a critical priority and necessity. • Over the past year, the Central Islip Fire District has researched its options for upgrading, replacing, or adding to their existing facilities. Headquarters, Station 2, Station 3 – various building components are beyond their useful life New Training Building – additional training for skills and tactics New Sub-Station – additional support and faster response time for the growing community in the area by the Former NYIT Campus. CENTRAL ISLIP FIRE DISTRICT

BOFC Consideration/Goals Provide projects that promotes the following: • Meets the needs and safety of the Department and community • Fiscal responsibility • Anticipates future needs, correct issues of the past, and includes repairs and construction built to help the existing infrastructure last and serve the community for +50 years CENTRAL ISLIP FIRE DISTRICT

BOFC Consideration/Goals Provide projects that promote the following; ALL UPGRADES • Efficient response to calls – including maintaining response during construction • Adequate facilities for Department meetings and training exercises NEW CONSTRUCTION: • Incorporates a safe layout and design for responders § Vehicle clearances / truck layout § Building safety with updates to internal systems § Improved bunker gear access / areas • Appropriate space for existing and future apparatus CENTRAL ISLIP FIRE DISTRICT

Creating “Green” Projects In all the proposed projects it is intended that sustainability is implemented. • Use of construction materials or methodologies that create greater efficiencies, are environmentally friendly and promote sustainability. • Original buildings will be maintained, or modestly disturbed eliminating or reducing unnecessary waste. • For any new construction we will be incorporating high efficiency equipment and systems to minimize long term costs and maintenance. • Will incorporate the use of local and regional renewable/recycled materials throughout the finishes to minimize VOC’s and other contaminants that negatively impact the environment and building occupants. • We believe this is a responsible position to adopt as part of our stewardship of an important community resource. District Wide Improvements • There are improvements throughout the various buildings that are part of this Fire District and need improvements for a continuing functioning District. • The District Wide improvements will include: o Upgrades to the Card Access System, CCTV, and required Fire Alarm replacement. (All Facilities) o Repaving of the existing deteriorating parking lots, ramps and sidewalks. (All Facilities) o Exterior light poles will be replaced as required with efficient lighting. (All Facilities) o Replace Windows and Main Entrance Doors. (Headquarters) o New Cascade System. (Headquarters) o New Training Building. (Station 2) CENTRAL ISLIP FIRE DISTRICT
