Jim Strickland Memphis City Mayor • • • Central Gardens Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting Sworn in as mayor of Memphis on Jan. 1, 2016, pledging to work toward making ours a safer and stronger city, to lead a transparent and trustworthy government, and to have an administration that applies, in his words, “new eyes to solve old problems. ” Vice chairman of the council in 2013 and as its chairman in 2014. Eight years representing District 5 on the City Council, thencouncilman Strickland became known for fighting for government transparency and public safety. 1982 graduate of Christian Brothers High School, 1986 graduate of the University of Memphis 1989 graduate of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the U of M. Practiced law at Glankler Brown PLLC from 1990 to 1998, when he began practicing at Kustoff & Strickland PLLC, where he remained until becoming mayor. Monday, May 20, 2013 7: 00 p. m. • Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School Community service has long been a part of Mayor Strickland’s life. He has volunteered with various organizations, such as the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, and has Anchor Center served on many different community boards, including chairing the Memphis Botanic Garden board of directors. He is a gold life member of the NAACP. Mayor Strickland his wife, Melyne, have two children.

Landmarks, Zoning and Compliance Central Gardens Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting • CG Landmarks Committee continues to work closely with owners, architects and developers of projects surrounding our neighborhood, to help maintain the overall integrity of Midtown. • Central Gardens Design Guidelines provide rules for external renovations, new building and demolition of existing structures. The Committee is reviewing updates to these guidelines. • The Historic Overlay District in the Unified Development Code (UDC) provides additional protection for all midtown neighborhoods. The Landmarks Committee is working with staff on problems with: • Noise • Short-term rentals (Air B&B, VRBO, etc) • Commercial Adjacent Impact Issues • Monday, May 20, 2013 7: 00 p. m. th Parade July 4 Central Gardens Neighborhood Association Despite the rain, it was a fun morning! • Between 200 -300 neighbors participated in the parade. Annual Meeting • The costumes were amazing and very patriotic – from Betsy Ross to dogs with red, white, and blue fur – spirit for our country was evident! 39 th Annual Home Tour Central Gardens September 2015 • Neighborhood Association The 39 annual Home and Garden th Tour was a success drawing almost 1000 people to our historic neighborhood. Central Gardens captured our hearts and is now our home.
