What is CENTR? • Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries • Forum for TLD managers – Primarily cc. TLDs (but includes g. TLDs) – Primarily European (but members from 5 continents)
CENTR Work WSIS: • Monitoring developments • Advocate private sector/community based leadership of Internet ITU • Closely following
CENTR Work cc. NSO: • Still under discussion • Some members feel there are structural problems, others loopholes. GAC principles: • Meeting with GAC representatives (Dec 2003) • CENTR response to draft GAC principles submitted (no total agreement)
CENTR Work WHOIS paper • “Checklist” for implementing WHOIS that complies with privacy legislation. – Considers EC directive on Data Privacy – First draft discussed February GA – Further work required. Meeting with EU Commissioner • Encourage private sector management, liberal policies.
CENTR Work ICANN fund • Contributing members: currently: 10 (more interested for next budget year) • To increase trust • List of requests & demands presented to ICANN (Paul Verhoef & Doug Barton) at last GA – response promised within 90 days after Rome. IANA shadowing • • • Efforts to create a mirror of IANA CENTR maintains a snapshot and mirror of IANA database Automatically tracks changes and monitors performance Assist of authentication of cc. TLD manager To increase trust and stability
CENTR Work IDN resource website • Neutral place for end-users to upgrade their software to support IDNs • “One click” solution – Automatically detects if browser supports IDNs – Offers appropriate upgrades if necessary • Vendor neutral, not fixed to Veri. Sign’s plug-in etc. • Localised to many different languages • Launch estimate – 1 -2 weeks after ICANN.
Increased Awareness Kite mark program • CENTR members encouraged to use CENTR “membership badge” on websites. • Linked to special website to be developed describing CENTR basics & key registry basics in standard format Newsletter • Aim to improve awareness of cc. TLD issues outside out industry • First issue focus – “Tribute to EU Commissioner Liikanen”
