Statement of the Problem • CEC in water, soil, and air pose substantial risks

Statement of the Problem • CEC in water, soil, and air pose substantial risks to human and environmental health. • U. S. currently > 85, 000 chemicals in commerce 2, 000 new chemicals each year. • These chemicals lack toxicological, fate and transport, and advanced treatment systems to address the human and environmental threats. • In many cases we lack the analytical methods to detect them in the ppt range.

Discovery Grant Project Broad Goals • Develop analytical protocols • Study the environmental fate

Discovery Grant Project Broad Goals • Develop analytical protocols • Study the environmental fate and transport • Develop remediation and treatment methods • Study human and environmental toxicology • Conduct and develop policy analysis • Model the effect of new CECs

Discovery Grant Project Plan • Submit a proposal to the Empire Innovation Program •

Discovery Grant Project Plan • Submit a proposal to the Empire Innovation Program • Develop targeted CEC courses • Leverage funding for core equipment • Use ongoing research to leverage funding for new CEC projects • Hire post doctoral fellow for full time research • Position ESF at the center of research and education by inviting prominent CEC researchers to a series of theme-focused workshops
